IT Lab at United College

United College(UC), located in Kumaripati, Lalitpur, Nepal, has well-equipped IT labs for its students. These facilities are available for students enrolled in programs that require social science, business, and IT education, such as the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS), and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) courses.

There are a total of 150 computers in good condition in the college including laptops and desktops. 100 computers are in four labs and 5 computers in the library reading room. There is a separate computer laboratory with all the necessary programming. This lab is easily accessible to both teachers and students. Also, there are sufficient laptops and desktop 50 computers in all the departments which are used by heads and deputy heads of departments for official purposes. The 5 computers in the library are used by students for academic purposes like downloading, reading books, research papers, and journals, etc. The college has 20MBPS dedicated internet with a backup line contracted with the World Link network, Nepal which is connected to all building blocks through fiber optics. The college has its own IBM server and Micro-TIK router for all blocks of the college. Also, the WI-Fi is provided in the entire college periphery with the help of AP Antennas which can be used by all students, teachers, and non-teaching staff with their hotspot login mobile app.

Computer Centre Access and Academic Support

The computers in the library as a computer centre provide access to students and teachers for full office time from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. It means the computer center is open for 10 hours Especially during projects and thesis works students have access to computers to facilitate their research works.

The computer centre has been very effective in terms of supporting computer-aided learning packages in various subjects. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the college had to suspend physical classes, the centre helped faculty members conduct online classrooms by providing quick and effective online workshops and suggestions. Further, the faculty members are now preparing presentation slides for teaching-learning purposes. For the students, students learn computer software as per the need in their syllabus and university curriculum. SPPS is used by management students. Python C and C++ are used for different projects related to automation and applied for many competitions organized by the college and between many colleges.
