Cyber Safety & Digital Responsibility

This sets out the definition, scope, and ideology that all students have the right to study in a safe and disciplined environment digitally, free from harassment. We expect the students to treat everyone with kindness and support each other. The college has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to bullying. This policy especially focuses on cyberbullying, as in the present situation, the college is running classes online in contrast to physical classes.
Cyberbullying is “The activity of sending internet or text messages that threaten or insult someone” (Longman dictionary, 2020). United Academy considers cyberbullying as very serious misconduct. The students found that doing so will face very serious consequences. The Academy wants the students to use the internet safely. All the online activities will be closely monitored by the IT department. The college asks all students to use the internet safely.

Cyberbullying Includes:

  • Threatening, insulting, abusing, and uploading inappropriate images in social media sites, email, videoconferencing applications like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams chat, image-sharing sites like Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • It can include provoking a third party to tease someone online.
  • Although cyberbullying is not a separate criminal offense, there are laws like the Electronic Transaction Act 2063 of Nepal that apply to bullying and harassment.

  • Do not delete anything (it will work as evidence later).
  • Protect your password. Do not share the password with anyone.
  • Do not reply to someone you don't know.
  • The college will deal with inappropriate use of the technology as well as other inappropriate conduct and actions will be taken following the college code of conduct.
  • The college will treat cyberbullying in the same way as other forms of bullying.

If an Academic Counselor/Coordinator reports or suspects cyberbullying, this will result in a disciplinary investigation carried out by the Disciplinary Committee. They will follow the steps below:

  • Ask students to show their electronic devices.
  • To note down everything suspicious, include the screenshot of messages, comments, images, and include the date and time.
  • To print off the offending material immediately.
  • To inform the higher authority.
  • To interrogate the student and take their statement and take action accordingly.
  • If the bullying is found to be proven, appropriate disciplinary action may include expulsion as well, and action might be taken by the law, like the Electronic Transaction Act 2063 of Nepal, which applies to bullying and harassment.
