The MBS entrance exam is the admission test for MBS and MPA at Tribhuvan University. The university's Faculty of Management (FoM) holds it every year. You have to pass it to join MBS at any TU campus or affiliated college. For the 2083 intake, the official notice is not out yet. Going by past years, forms should open between late Kartik and mid Mangsir. The exam should then fall in Poush.

MBS Entrance Overview

The MBS entrance exam is a written admission test for the Master of Business Studies (MBS) program at TU. Many students call it the MBS CMAT, because it is FoM's master's level Central Management Admission Test. The same test also admits students to MPA, the Master of Public Administration.

Don't mix it up with the bachelor's CMAT, though. That one is for programs like BBM and BBA. In 2083, it was held on 23 Shrawan. The master's level test comes later, around Poush.

Your score matters beyond a simple pass. Campuses use CMAT scores to make their merit lists. So a better score gives you a better shot at the college you actually want.

When Is the MBS Entrance Exam 2083?

The official dates for 2083 will be announced soon. As per now, there is no MBS entrance notice for 2083 at the FoM notice board. The most recent one is about the postponed exam and is dated October 27, 2026.

Still, FoM has followed the same rhythm for three years in a row. The notice comes out in Kartik or Mangsir. Forms stay open for four to six weeks. Then the exam is held on a Saturday in Poush, at 8:00 AM.

MBS Entrance Exam Eligibility

You can apply if you have finished a bachelor's degree from Tribhuvan University. A degree from any other university that TU recognizes also works.

Can I Apply Without a BBS Degree?

TU accepts a bachelor's degree in any discipline for MBS. This means graduates of BBM, BBA, BCA, BA, BSc and other programs can all sit the test.

That said, students from non-business streams should plan extra study time. The business and economics part will feel new to them at first.

Can Final-Year Students Apply?

The 2081 and 2082 notices both asked students to show their passed result transcript at the time of admission. In other words, you need your bachelor's result in hand before you can join. If your result is still pending, talk to your chosen campus before you pay the fee. The 2083 rules will be confirmed in the official notice.

What Score Do I Need for MBS Admission?

There is no single cut-off for all of Nepal. Each campus builds its own merit list from CMAT scores. Most colleges also look at your bachelor's result. For example, United College's MBS page lists two conditions. You need at least 40 percent in CMAT and a second division in your bachelor's degree.

The official 2083 format is coming soon. Until then, last year's pattern is your best guide.

Format in Last Year's Notice (2082)

The 2082 notice listed multiple-choice questions from three areas:

• Verbal ability
• Quantitative ability
• Business and economics, or general awareness

The exam started at 8:00 AM, and the fee was Rs. 1,500. The 2081 notice used the same three areas and the same fee.

How many questions should you expect? Here, published copies of the notice don't agree. Some list 25 questions in total. Others read it as 25 questions per area, which makes 75 in all. So prepare for the longer paper. If the real test turns out shorter, you lose nothing.

Negative Marking Cons

According to an earlier FoM notice, marks would be deducted for incorrect answers. No mention of it, either way, in the two last notices, as published. So the conservative approach would be to assume that there is the possibility of negative marking. Only guess if you can eliminate two answers.

Some college websites still describe the old 100-question format. Plan around the recent notices. Even so, a little practice in logical reasoning won't hurt. A 2024 FoM re-entrance notice for MBS and MPA still listed it.

MBS Entrance Syllabus: What to Study

The notice names broad areas only. Use FoM model questions as your main guide. The topics below are common in management aptitude tests in Nepal.

• Verbal ability covers vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, sentence correction and short reading passages.
• Quantitative ability covers percentages, ratios, profit and loss, interest, basic algebra and reading data tables.
• Logical reasoning covers number series, coding and decoding, blood relations and seating puzzles.
• General awareness covers current affairs in Nepal, the national budget, banks and major public bodies.
• Business and economics covers the basics of management, marketing, accounting, finance, and demand and supply.
  

How to Fill the MBS Entrance Form 2083 (Step by Step)

The whole process is online. Here is how it worked in the 2081 and 2082 cycles.

1. Wait for the official notice on fomecd.edu.np.
2. Open tudoms.org. FoM also posts the link on its own site.
3. Choose MBS and the campus you want, then fill in your personal and academic details.
4. Upload your photo, signature and the documents the form asks for.
5. Pay the fee online through ConnectIPS or fonepay. It was Rs. 1,500 last year.
6. Save your payment receipt and form details.
7. Check the exam centre list. FoM publishes it later on its websites.
8. Sit the exam, then apply to your chosen campus with your score and transcript.

Documents to Keep Ready

• Passport photo and signature scan in the passport size
• Transcripts in original format (must be certified)
• An official transcript that shows your completion of a Bachelor's Degree that you have passed (for the admission phase).
• The online fee receipt is the payment receipt you received when you paid online.

How to Prepare for the MBS Entrance in 30 Days

You don't need expensive coaching to do well. But you do need a plan, and you need to stick with it. Try to set aside about two focused hours a day.

Keep a small notebook of the questions you get wrong, and go back to it every few days. Reading one business news story each morning also helps with general awareness. On test day, don't get stuck on a hard question. Move on and come back to it if time allows.

After the Test: MBS Entrance Result, Merit List and Admission

FoM publishes the MBS entrance result on its website after the exam. Each campus then makes a merit list from CMAT scores. Next, you apply to your chosen campus with your score sheet and your passed transcript. In the last two cycles, classes were planned to start in Magh.
